Let there be flashbacks. (I guess blue signifies memory/ flashback)
I’m guessing this is from the time span either before or after Toris’s demon form happened. Regardless it is interesting to see her perspective from the time there were humans.
Anyone wonder what the bells signify? It seems some demons had them and some didn’t?
mjw the point here is that FERADIN is on the side of the humans in the memory, not part of the crowd of the attacking demons, and afraid of them. this must surprise her a lot because she had called TORIS traitor like the other demons do. perhaps she is also wanted to be human.
walex: I’m glad you noticed. I thought about it after I posted, but wanted to see if anyone else took notice. She also has a name tag, like Toris did. The other demons, we haven’t seen them carry around one. Either came before or we just haven’t seen a flashback with them wearing one yet.
I also notice a different style between the demons. There are the smooth sleek demons like Feradin and Toris and then the rough stone-like demons like those pictured and the builder. It looks like at one time the stone shaped demons were on the human side as noted here in this memory: http://stonebreakercomic.com/stonebreaker/names-2/
I wonder what makes the difference: Age or how they got turned?
The other interesting detail is that the door must lead to something important, because it is being defended by very determined “last stand” soldiers who are not running away like all the other inhabitants of Noridun did after the freeing of the demons.
Ah but yes, from the previous panel FERADIN is standing under an passageway directly in front of the statue of Hadol that ATEDAYIS (the builder) repaired and in front of the library, so those are the doors of the library, which leads to the well, so that explains why FERADIN is having flashbacks: he has gotten too near to the well, which seems to be at the back of the library.
Let’s see if the reply feature works. My problem is with how buggy the comments are. If you’re not on the latest page, you have to right click and open comments in a new window to load a version of the comic with the comments visible.
Additional potential interesting detail: so far it looks like that “in” end female Noridi names (Anyalin, FERADIN, Halin) and “is” ends male names, except for Tenid and potentially VELANID. But maybe VELANID may be a coincidence, because the page in which that name is used seem to be from a long time before the Noridi king Tenid met Stonebreaker.
I just discovered comments! I’ve been wanting to read and discuss with others.
Ok, so – my take so far: The stone demons are actual demons and were controlled somehow by humans. The smooth demons were originally humans and somehow became demons (perhaps in death, being lowered into the pit, returning in demon form). The bells were used as some sort of alert of their presence since they are smaller and more agile than the larger original demons. But they’ve had their names taken and now think they are simply demons the same as the others.
The one chink to that theory might be the builder demon. I have a hunch he has a human origin, but may be so old that the process making him might be different.
Or maybe not. I am very curious to see the Builder’s past which by the way also has an -is name (Implying he might be one of Nordin’s founders, given by his speech and the scrolls) http://stonebreakercomic.com/stonebreaker/boom-4/
Yet another theory might be age of the demon. Maybe the younger they are, the smoother and more humanoid they are. Aas they age, they may turn to stone. That may explain why the builder is an intermediate form between the stone demons and the smooth ones.
I also note a style change in Feradin in this page compared to the last pages. Very subtle but you’ll see it especially in the next page. Here she has a lip and rounder face. She appears to lack a lip and has a more wedge shaped face in the other pages. There are other details like the neck lines and general anatomy that stand out in this page. Another thing I noticed but not sure if it means anything, but it seems the more flashbacks Toris has, the shorter his horns seem to be. I am watching to see if the same happens with Feradin’s horns.
The age idea is intriguing. When I look at the builder, though, I don’t see what would characterize him as possibly an intermediate stage between flesh demon and stone demon. Are you basing that on the arrow piercing?
The Builder looks closer to the stone demon in build structure, but he still has a humanoid form. The beasts on this page look more animal-like and the stones more fused into their form. A number of the rock demons appear more quadruped than biped.
It is kind of hard to tell with the last frame, but this is a rough idea: http://stonebreakercomic.com/stonebreaker/names-2/
It also shows the rock demons cooperating with the humans around Toris’ human era.
I wouldn’t read too much into little details like horn length or how angular Feradin’s face is — that’s just me being inconsistent drawing my characters, especially if I’m not used to them. I wish everything in here was meaningful, but sometimes I just get off model!

Those are indeed the doors to the library, checked they with:
http://stonebreakercomic.com/stonebreaker/leap/
That is significant because it looks like she is about to enter the library, and in:
http://stonebreakercomic.com/stonebreaker/seeing-things/
he had told TORIS that he was mad to stay that near to the well.
Hm, I take it Feradin is now less of a secondary character?
Also, Walex/MJI: You guys realize there is a reply button right below your guy’s comments right?
Unless your doing that because it broke somehow…

Don’t forgot the Builder’s name: Atedayis
My hunch is he may be the founder or one of the founders of Noridan.

Or I just get caught too much in the details. Sorry. Thanks for clearing that up.
