Feradin probably wants to be free, whether she is aware or not, some part of her subconscious/ conscious memories is still tied with the humans.
About the builder: I have a theory going he is perhaps one of the oldest demons. His human form perhaps tying with the origin of the city. Note the tales of the Stonebreaker have “V” in place of “U” and the builder so far seems to be the only demon who has that strange quirk.
If he is the one who started building the city or close to the one who did, perhaps that explains why he cares so much for the town and keeping the buildings in good shape. It is perhaps his one human memory tying him to the place, just like Toris and the library.
Taking that theory even further, I suspect the builder demon will also come to a conflict as more human memories get triggered.
Because you don’t like the conflict with humans and/or want to be free? I love how Feradin floats about, good to see more of her!
