It’s whatever the demon goo is, but I honestly couldn’t quite figure out how to draw it.
So… basically blood?
Uhm, our author says it is “good” or “blood”, but wait a moment: demon’s goo do far has been depicted as ectoplasmic, that is smoky, light grayish, not dark like blood. Maybe TORIS is turning human after all in the strange world where memory and reality get confused… 🙂
Uh, what if Toris is disappearing into goo because this was before the human form of him existed?
It seems demons need to have a piece of Human soul to be in the physical world. Without Human Toris, then Demon Toris would just be goo.
Uh our author is playing with us — the mystery of the builders of the place with many pillars and wells becomes deeper with the discovery that the passage they built has many branches. Hopefully one day he will publish a prequel about them.
BTW that mystery is even deeper, and the mystery of the fall of the Noridun is deeper, because it is pretty obvious that the demons are not invulnerable (Kohjen killed one and TORIS was wounded in his fall).
When in the distant past Stonebreaker killed the two builders that was only because he caught them by surprise and they were unarmed. Weren’t there other builders who could be sent down to kill him? The same for the fall of Noridun: it was a slave revolt, and it succeeded because it happened by surprise. But couldn’t have Noridun been reconquered by a human army, especially with the enormous advantage that the demon could not counterattack if they retreat behind the barrier? Anyhow, too much realism :-).
