Note that the name given to the semi transparent demon is “CANATOPIS” which is the name of the demon that calls TORIS a traitor.
Notre that in the “demon” page someone called “Peter” (probably the author) says “This is how demons are made in general (although it’s not the only way). The word “Canatopis” the priest guy says is this particular demon’s name.”.
Our author seems me excellent not just with the graphics but also with the story telling: he has subtly weaved into the the story several hints that the official story of the defeat of “Stonebreaker”/”VELANID” by Tenid and and the Raven is false, as there are several conflicting versions, and obviously the real story is shameful and that’s why it has been lost. As TORIS says in this panel the well room is something there “everything terrible happens”:
Re: Walex
The story of the defeat being false is the impression I get too. The story about them running away seems likely thre true one.
Another interesting scene to mention is when ““Canatopis” is ready to take Toris, we see Toris becoming transparent revealing the “human soul” or whatever that is in the middle. http://stonebreakercomic.com/stonebreaker/human/
Whatever Anya does by touching him seems to halt the process of him getting absorbed. Also Halin’s name is mentioned as one of those names that demon later takes. She’s the one mentioned making a play about something worthy of exiling her.
Until proven wrong I have a hunch the process of exiling someone involves sending people down this deep pit and the process we witnessed happening to Canatopis.
Did Toris find an old friend of his that got killed?
What happens when he loses all of his bells?
I think Toris just found himself.
So to speak.
Aww, Toris… You’re still you, buddy! Whatever your origins…
I don’t know why but I am reminded of this scene somehow:

Well, there are the two panels where a warrior is lowered into the well, and a semi-transparent (perhaps newly formed) demon then appears out of it:

Yes I agree the writing in this comic is great. That and the subtle hints is what got me hooked into reading the comic.
