Ahhhahah. This is a bit of diabolical turn of events. Is there someone else guiding events? Because what Scribbler told the bird was “find Anya”, not “find the stone of protection”.
Uh, also now that we get a close look at the stone of protection, it looks completely different from the other stones. It looks decorated in the same style as the platform and the small pillar in the middle of the platform, which are not in the noridi style, nor in those of the “signs”. I wonder what happens if she puts it into the slot in the mini-pillar in the middle. It looks like it is kind of “programmable” (the stone) as mentioned in page “escape”.
We’ll see what our mysterious author goes next…

I thought maybe the Stonebreaker’s actions dislodged it and forced it out of the “holder”. That said, looks like the Stonebreaker has really grown, bigger and more powerful each time we see him in either flashback or scene.

I doubt it, I suspect that it was Tenid that took it out of the slot, as Hadol’s raven told him to look for a stone with signs of protection (page “bones-of-the-mountains”).
But overall there is some backstory about the ancient civilization that built the many pillars and wells that we are missing. Perhaps our wonderful author will one day do a prequel?
The other mystery is when Toris tells Koris that is the newly discovered scroll Stonebreaker is trapped below (page “stories”), and that the decorations of the door to the well show Stonebreak instead *outside* the barrier and uselessly trying to break it (page “the-shrine”).
